Her mother’s death had been hard on Veronique. Every morning was a struggle for her, as laying lethargically in her bed for hours seemed so much less painful that facing the heartbroken look on her father’s face or the empty spot where her mother used to write her novels.

Week 17: Wednesday

The day was finally here, Veronique thought with a tinge of guilt as she slid slowly out from her bed.

Her head hurt. She had barely slept the night before, her mind too full of the implications of what today stood for. This was it, this was the end.

Chapter 43: Unwelcome Realizations

Week 17: Sunday

The smell exuding from Veronique’s spotless kitchen was, to her alarm, not that of pancakes.

It was Sunday. Sunday meant that the entire family ate breakfast together, and that breakfast consisted of pancakes made by Veronique. Flamefruit pancakes, which were of course the best kind of pancakes.
